Organized Gossip

May 24, 2008 | Category: News, Sexblogs

Life away from my new keyboard (Logitech Wave Cordless Keyboard - excellent piece of kit for PC-based writers, highly recommended) has unfortunately been keeping me from engaging with the creative process. I’ve had a few emails from people enquiring as to the silence. What can I say? It’s pretty difficult to communicate meaningfully with one’s muse when you can’t get together for a Tête à Tête in the first place.

Anyway, I thought I’d metaphorically wave my arm around a bit whilst I’m treading water, just so the world knows I’m still functioning. And as I’m here, I may as well throw in a handful of tidings and thoughts - like one of those pretty much useless sixty second news updates they pad out the programming with on BBC3.

Christ, does that mean I should be publicly funded too?

Fame is a Vapour (addendum)
Back in February, I featured in true “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” fashion in the Australian edition of Cosmopolitan.

Cosmopolitan Article - February 2008

I’ve never been intoxicatingly sexy before. Is that good?

[PS - my thanks to the lovely Naughty Secretary for taking the time to scan and email the article for me.]

Compulsive Ardour
After an initially strong showing, sales of the ‘Best of EA‘ book have slackened off markedly. I’m still scratching my head as to why the number of books moved is nowhere near the number of people who polled to say they wanted the darned thing. Is anyone out there prepared to let me know / hazard a guess as to why there’s such a disparity?

Also, I’d like to make a general plea for assistance. If you have purchased the book, can I please ask that you consider adding a review to the relevant page on Lulu.com? If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you’ll see that there is a review section, together with a ‘add a review‘ link. Obviously, being the vainglorious writer that I am, I’d much prefer the reviews to be glowing … well, at least upbeat, but I’d appreciate some feedback.

Reviews can only be left by those people who’ve actually purchased the book (spammers / abusers - don’t waste your time). I wish I could make this a more personal, less ‘one size fits all’ approach, but as I have no access to the details of purchasers (see, it can be completely anonymous, if you so desire) this is my only option.

[PS - hat off to Ms Hansen. First to buy the book, first to write a review. There's a big glass of chilled Moët waiting for you at the finishing line, Ms H!]

The Next Life
I’ve decided that I’d like to be Billy Zane, and for one simple reason:

Do I really need to say more?

Normal service will be…

~EA… what a relief to know that you’ve not been swallowed by a man-hole!

As for being Billy Zane in your next life - yes, Kelly is rather easy on the eye, let me just remind you that Billy has no hair! :D Personally, I like a man with hair… it give me something to hold onto while he… oh, sorry

I feel a script coming on. “Being Billy Zane”. Of course, it’d have to be a porno…

I’d hazard a guess that the disparity is down to that good old standby, human nature.

It’s a lot easier to click the “yes” button on a blog poll than it is to actually stump up the cash and order a book. It’s all done with the best intentions, but it is the gulf between thought and deed which is the stumbling block.

The old ‘human nature’ chestnut, huh Luka? Bugger. I’d feared as much. I’d best put that Audi R8 purchase on hold…

I voted that I wanted Best of EA and was then hit with the biggest financial disaster of my entire life. But you know I would have bought it if I could…. I quite like your blog, you’re a fairly good writer. ;)

Thank you, Lina - it was only the other day that I was thinking that you were a fairly good writer too. ;)

[P.S. BTW, sort your overdraft out and help keep me in the manner to which I'd like to become accustomed ;) ;) ]

… were I smarter I’d have got your title the first time though.

Well, you’re the first person to even mention it, Wrenna. Some comfort, perhaps?

The price put me off, I’ll admit. When I voted, I expected it to be in the £5 region, maybe £6.99 tops. At £10, it’s sitting on my “to read” list, and I *will* buy a copy at some point, but it’s not jumped straight to the top of the list. Once I’ve finished Five Sips, perhaps…

Fair enough. I’d wondered if price might be an issue. Unfortunately, since the books are printed ‘on demand’ by Lulu.com, there are no economies of scale to be enjoyed (unless someone puts an order in for a significant number) which inevitably jacks the price up. £5? Lulu charge more than that to print the book in the first place. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to see some sort of return for all my hard work. So when you add manufacturing costs to my percentage to Lulu’s slice of the pie… Even so, I think it compares pretty fairly price-wise to other similarly-sized/themed books on Lulu, and (switching off the modesty routines) I’m positive it compares well in terms of content…

    Small comforts then. Küsse,

I always hope to provide a degree of comfort here, Wrenna. I’d prefer it to be more substantial, naturally…

I’ve done my review and it’s being used as a prop on my blog today :)

So I saw - on both counts. I’d never envisaged the book as an identity protector. That’ll teach me to be of limited imagination…
